Q: Where is Morgan City, Louisiana?
                
A: Morgan City is located at the mouth of the Atchafalaya River just miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

Q. Why is the tuition so low?                  
A. The Marine Department is one of ten departments in the Young Memorial Campus. Young Memorial is one of the 42 Technical Colleges in Louisiana Technical College system. Tuition to the Marine Department is the same for any course at any of these Technical Colleges.   up.gif (997 bytes)

Q: Can I renew my Radar Observer Certificate at your school? If so, what is the tuition, and when may I begin?       
A: Yes, you can renew your Radar Observer Certificate you must present a copy of your original certificate and attend the refresher course. Tuition is $60, residents and $100 for out of state, and the course takes from one to three days. You may begin any day that the school is open.

Q: What books and or supplies do I need to attend Radar Observer?       
A: You need a Radar Book that is available at the school's bookstore for $9.00 cash.

Q: Does Young Memorial offer Coast Guard Approved Fire Fighting?    
 Young Memorial has been approved by the U.S. Coast Guard for Advanced Fire Fighting.

Q: Does Young Memorial offer Tankerman?           
A: Yes, we now offer Tankerman classes for Dangerous Liquids and Liquidfied gas.

Q: What equipment do I need for the license preparatory courses?      
A. Dividers, 4-function calculator, (plotter, parallel rulers, or triangles), and Rules of the Road Book (available at the school bookstore).

Q: Is there a teacher available in the classroom to answer my questions?   
A: Yes, an Instructor will be in the class for your guidence also state-of-the-art computer and video equipment available in our License prep room. Our approved courses are  instructed by U.S. Coast Guard approved licened officers. Classes will be lecture and hands on  practical demonstration.

Q: What is an Onboard Assessor?
A: An Onboard Assessor is certified to sign and evaluated assessments of candidates.  up.gif (997 bytes)

Q: What local hotels or motels are there in the area?              
A: Most people stay in a local hotel or motel  temporarily while they attend school.

Q: What are short courses?
                 
A: Tuition for short courses covers only one subject with the exception of

Marine Operator Permit and GMDSS.
Marine Operator Permit is a pre-requisite for GMDSS, and it is included in the short course tuition.

Q: What is Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch?
A: This course is now a prerequisite for any one who wants to upgrade to
Able Sea man or an OS that stands in as  part of a navigational watch
